RIPPLE : Roshna Khadka

For the past three-four years, I’ve had the privilege of working alongside a brilliant group of engineers, developers, and tech wizards. As someone who doesn’t come from a technical background, I initially felt like a fish out of water. Surrounded by acronyms, jargon, and lines of code that looked like a foreign language, I often felt like I was eavesdropping on a secret society.
But you know what? It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.

Some or few unexpected perks of being the “non-tech” girl in a tech team:
A Constant Learning Curve: Every day is a crash course in the fascinating world of technology. I’m constantly learning new things, from the latest AI advancements to the intricacies of cloud computing. It keeps my mind sharp and always curious.
A Unique Perspective: My non-technical background often provides a unique perspective on projects. I can ask the “why” questions, challenge assumptions, and help bridge the gap between the technical and business sides of things.
Simplified Explanations: I’ve become surprisingly adept at translating complex technical concepts into plain English. This has proven invaluable for communicating project updates to non-technical stakeholders, such as clients or executives.
Building Strong Relationships: My role has forced me to build strong relationships with my technical colleagues. I’ve learned to appreciate their expertise and understand their challenges. These relationships have gone beyond work, fostering genuine friendships and a strong sense of camaraderie.
Appreciation for the “Magic”: Witnessing the incredible things that skilled engineers, coders, and designers can create is truly awe-inspiring. From developing innovative software solutions to solving complex problems, I have a newfound appreciation for the power of technology and the brilliance of my colleagues.
Initially, I was intimidated by the technical jargon and the sheer brilliance of my teammates. But over time, I’ve come to embrace this unique environment. It’s a constant challenge, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I’ve learned to communicate more effectively, appreciate the power of technology, and build strong relationships with some truly remarkable individuals.
If you find yourself in a similar situation, embrace the challenge! Be curious, ask questions, and don’t be afraid to admit when you don’t understand something. You might just surprise yourself with what you learn.
